The Southwestern Pulpit is a series of books released by Seminary Hill Press, the publishing arm of Southwestern Seminary. Each book in the series covers a chapter of the New Testament by featuring sermons preached during the seminaries bi-weekly chapel services. The client asked me to create a design for the first volume in the series, Philippians: Joyful Unity in the Gospel, and mockup a few designs for future volumes. They wanted an elegant and classy design but also requested it be abstract in order to work with future volumes. I implemented their vision by using rich dark colors and gold with a subtle marble background and pairing a classic serif typeface with a clean sans-serif.
